Helcim
Helcim is a payment processor offering transparent interchange-plus pricing with no monthly fees. Features include in-person (card readers), online, and invoice payments, a free online store builder, recurring billing, and an API for custom integrations. Automatically lowers rates as you process more volume. Includes free invoicing, a customer portal, and PCI compliance tools.
Brick-and-mortar retail and service businesses wanting transparent pricing, SMBs tired of flat-rate processors like Square overcharging on large transactions, businesses needing both in-person and online payment acceptance
Helcim is the anti-Stripe/Square for Main Street businesses. Interchange-plus pricing means you pay actual card network costs plus a small markup — significantly cheaper than flat-rate processors for businesses doing $5K+/month. The automatic volume discounts are genuinely unusual. No monthly fees and free invoicing make it very SMB-friendly.
High-risk industries (restricted by Helcim), businesses processing very low volume where flat-rate is simpler, enterprise companies needing complex payment orchestration

“we use Helcim as our CC provider, and this year we started passing the credit card fee along to the customer (via Helcim Fee Saver). Previously we were in the $400 area monthly on credit card fees alone. We haven't had one person complain about the surcharge”

“Helcim seemsto be very unreliable, for whoever is reading right now I'd not go with them. After speaking to a sales person on the phone, I finished my sign in process and shortly after my account was rejected for no apparent reason. You simply cannot build an app with a platform that stabs you in the back”

“Helcim was the absolute worst payment processor I've ever dealt with. I jumped through hoops to get signed up, provided all the documentation they asked for, and finally got approved. I then spent hours setting up my account, integrating it with my business, and preparing to process payments. After my first successful transaction, everything went downhill fast. Just two days later, I received an email demanding more information and additional steps to continue using their service. It was like they couldn't get their act together from the start! While I was trying to comply with their ridiculous demands, they closed my account with no warning. Worse yet, they refunded my client's payment without my permission, causing massive problems with my accounting and payroll. This kind of unprofessionalism is beyond unacceptable—it's outright damaging to businesses! I have never encountered such incompetence and disrespect from any company. Their lack of communication, poor processes, and cavalier attitude toward my business have left me scrambling to fix the mess they caused. Do yourself a favor and stay FAR away from Helcim.”
