Julia
Research software engineering requiring high performance with limited resources, matrix operations and serious number crunching like simulations or machine learning
Julia delivers high performance and a unified workflow for scientific computing, but requires initial patience to learn.

“The Julia code that processed the whole dataset and built the database took 5 hours, which made iterative development much more pleasant”

“the core part (redefining Julia functions), already works in Julia Base”

“My biggest problem with Julia is that they decided to use column-major indexing for multi-dimensional arrays (i.e. FORTRAN/MATLAB style). This makes interoperability with C/C++ and python numpy a real pain, since you can't do zero-copy array sharing between the two without one side being forced into strided-access. For that reason alone I haven't adopted it in any of my work-flows.”

“Julia with some initial patience does deliver a better developer experience in this scenario than the equivalent Python experience for me partly because I do not need to play vectorizarion games, and I can do everything in one integrated environment”

“tried installing julia on termux a few times with no success”

“Julia tells the two operations (vector sum and outer sum) apart very elegantly: one is `S - T` and the other is `S .- T`: the dot here is very idiomatic and consistent with the rest of the syntax.”

“Julia simply has become so much more productive and pleasant to work with”

“julia is still clunky for these purposes! you can't even plot two things at the same time without it being weird and there's still a ton of textual noise when expressing linear algebra in it.”
