our take
Google's defense is real: the AI business is selling. Cloud revenue doubled in a year, and Google Cloud's chief credits "extraordinary demand and strong growth from AI labs." But look at who is buying. As Investing.com analyst Thomas Monteiro put it: "Right now, Alphabet earns more selling AI to its rivals than using it itself." Google is renting out the shovels while it spends more cash than it brings in, and it says next year it spends more. For a small business this is not a stock tip. It is a vendor signal. The AI tools you rely on are built by companies spending ahead of their earnings, and that bill gets paid somewhere. Know what each AI tool costs you today, what you would switch to, and how long switching would take. What to watch: Alphabet's 2027 spending number on its next call, and whether Google changes pricing or limits on Gemini and Workspace plans.
