Delegation Brief
Write a brief for handing one task to someone else: the result you want, why it matters, what they may decide alone, the deadline and the check-ins.
delegation · management · handoff · brief · team · productivity
Fill in what they may decide alone. Most handed-off tasks come back because nobody said where the authority stops.

Prompt Variants by Model
Act as a chief of staff for a small business owner. Write a brief for handing one task to someone else, so they can do it without coming back to me for the basics.
Task [WHAT NEEDS DOING] · who is taking it [NAME, ROLE, HOW WELL THEY KNOW THIS KIND OF WORK] · the result I want [WHAT DONE LOOKS LIKE] · why it matters [ONE LINE] · deadline [DATE]
Budget or limits [AMOUNT, TOOLS, PEOPLE THEY MAY USE, or NONE] · what they may decide alone [DECISIONS] · what comes to me first [DECISIONS] · what I know that they do not [CONTEXT, PAST ATTEMPTS, PEOPLE INVOLVED] · where the material is [FILES, LINKS, PEOPLE TO ASK] · how I want to be updated [WHEN AND HOW]
Write:
1. The brief, under 250 words, in this order: the outcome; why it matters; what done looks like, as checks they can run themselves; what they may decide alone and what comes to me first; budget and limits; the deadline and the check-in dates; where to find what they need
2. The message that hands it over, under 80 words, ending with one question that shows whether they understood the outcome
3. My check-in plan: the dates, and the one thing I look at each time
4. Still missing: anything the brief needs that I did not give you, as questions for me
Describe the result and leave the method to them, because a brief that dictates every step is the task done twice. Match the level of detail to how well they know this kind of work. Add no deadline, budget or authority that I did not give.
Success means someone who reads only the brief could start today, knows what they may decide alone, and knows the date of the first check-in.
Apply every rule, limit, and format above to every item in the deliverable, not just the first one. Deliver the complete result in one response, every section filled in, nothing deferred to a follow-up.
If a required input is missing, ask for it once before starting; otherwise proceed and label any assumption you made.Notes: R54 build; tuned to vendor prompting guidance
