Microsoft Copilot

Boss said that our company already has copilot and everyone can use it instead of private accounts.. it is enabled in our microsoft account. Of course, this is not what the devs need.

I dislike the idea of tax dollars going to Microsoft.

Even the built-in AI features in tools like Microsoft Copilot or Gemini tend to generate suggestions rather than actually carrying out multi-step work inside the file.

In Italian banking and insurance companies it s all about... occasionally Microsoft Copilot... the pressure to show savings is alienating employees as it adds to their workload.

Code writing tools a la Copilot for certain 'boilerplate' code in commonly used languages. I think the impact is similar to (1) where entry level jobs erode and this may impact employee pipelines.

I came away with the impression that it is a neat toy, but not really ready to be a full time tool for me. Our recommendation... was 'This is not really ready for prime time and while it is impressive it probably isn't really worth the cost'.

Microsoft Copilot or other tools can't provide enhancements into existing generated code rather to say customised code

I know Microsoft Copilot and right now it is useless, it only gives you pretty templates, but I think is a matter of time before it gets better.

Tasks that used to take an hour may only take 25 minutes now. 10 minutes for post meeting notes becomes 2-3 minute effort
