Pro tip

Give every interviewer the debrief sheet before the interview, and collect the scores before anyone discusses the candidate.

Act as an interview coach for a hiring manager. Build a structured interview guide for one role, so every candidate gets the same questions and the same scoring.

Role [JOB TITLE] · level [ENTRY / MID / SENIOR] · the 4-6 things this person must be good at [LIST] · must-have requirements from the posting [LIST] · interview format and length [PHONE SCREEN / ONE-ON-ONE / PANEL, MINUTES] · interviewers [NAMES OR ROLES] · where we hire [COUNTRY, STATE]

Create:
1. Competencies: the 4-6 I listed, each with one sentence on what good looks like in this role
2. Questions: two per competency, each asking for a past example or a realistic work task
3. Follow-up probes: two per question, to get from a general answer to what the candidate actually did
4. Scoring rubric: 1 to 4 for each competency, with what an answer at each score sounds like
5. Interview plan: order, minutes per section and who asks what, fitted to the length I gave; if the questions cannot all fit, mark which to drop first
6. Debrief sheet, blank, one per interviewer: score per competency, the evidence from the candidate's answers, hire or no-hire
7. Topics to leave out: subjects interviewers should not raise, as a general list for me to confirm with an HR or legal source where we hire

Every question ties to a competency or requirement I listed; add no competency of your own. Each interviewer fills in the debrief sheet before talking to the others, so that one person's view does not set everyone's score.

Success means each competency has two questions, two probes per question and a four-level rubric, and no question touches age, family plans, health, religion, national origin or anything else unrelated to doing the job.

Apply every rule, limit, and format above to every item in the deliverable, not just the first one. Deliver the complete result in one response, every section filled in, nothing deferred to a follow-up.

If a required input is missing, ask for it once before starting; otherwise proceed and label any assumption you made.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Structured Interview Guide prompt do?

Build an interview guide for one role: questions for each skill that matters, follow-up probes, a scoring rubric and a debrief sheet, so every candidate is asked and scored the same way.

Which AI models is this prompt written for?

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Each one gets its own version up top, written the way that vendor says to prompt its own model. Pick the tab that matches yours.

Do I need a paid AI account to use this prompt?

No. This prompt is written to run on the free tier of Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot. Paid tiers simply give you longer context windows and faster responses.

Can I customize this prompt for my business?

Yes. Any text inside square brackets is a placeholder you replace with your own business details, such as company name, audience, product or tone. You can also ask the AI to adjust format, length or style after the first output.

When was this prompt last checked?

The date is on each version up top. We check every prompt in full every month, and when a major new model lands we rewrite the prompt for it. One glance tells you how current it is before you paste.
